Youth Mentoring and Empowerment Program

In this program, YOFAFO reaches out to the young generation in schools to inspire and mentor them to become change agents, make good decisions that will affect their lives and communities in general.

This program aims at bridging the gap and become mentors and role models. YOFAFO organizes conferences, seminars to mentor and empower the young people.

We organize them into sporting groups in order to reduce the high levels of idleness in their villages. So many of them dropped out of school due to lack of school fees. Therefore, we encourage them to join our Vocational training programs we designed to make them semi-skilled young men and women so that they will be able to do something economical with their lives.

Our Vocational Training program involves Tailoring (Sewing), Hairdressing, Crafts, Bricklaying, Joinery and Motor Mechanics, are taught in order that many villagers gain skills and be able to start their own small businesses. We have seen many of our young people's lives being changed and transformed by this program. The Youth love this program because it also involves sporting activities as mentioned above. They participate in football, netball, jogging, athletics, among others. They are organized into small sporting teams that compete and verse each other during our sports day.

Those who are still interested in continuing with thier primary or secondary education, we try to find them sponsors to take them on and help them achieve their education dreams.

We also encourage the Youth to live healthy lives. We teach them this through workshops and seminars on HIV/AIDS prevention, going to HIV/AIDS testing so that they can know their status, and how to make right decisions. We carry out health related activities on their lives such as dental services, teaching them good health habits like bathing and brushing their teeth.
