We develop in them a reading culture YOFAFO has a program that caters for the elderly

YOFAFO aims at empowring women to be selfreliant. We teach them how to make beads and weavings which we sell abroad.

Library and Information Program

This is a program that was started in Bulamajji (our second empowerment center) through the generousity of our partners and volunteers who donanted books to YOFAFO. This program is aimed at developing and encouraging a reading culture among the young and old people.

This program also has a section that caters for the adults who want an opportunity to learn English. In Africa, many people think that because they do not know English then they are stupid. Before we teach them how to read and learn English, we first talk to them to raise their self-esteem by assuring them that not knowing English does not necessarily mean that one is stupid and on the other hand knowing English does not necessarily mean that one is bright. After they have gained back their confidence is when we start to teach them the basics of reading and writing English.

We also have different sessions where each individual comes to the front and reads for the rest of the group. The Books can range from Poetry, Science, Social life, Culture, Technology, Health, Curriculam-related books (Math, Science, English, Social Studies, Entreprenureship, etc), Literature, among others.

Our communities are very eager to learn They just love to read! They are always excited about books They love to read together
